BUILT-UP-ROOF (B.U.R.):
B.U.R. is a continuous roof covering composed of multiple layers (plies) of saturated or coated felts, fabrics, or mats laminated together with alternate layers of bitumen (either asphalt or coal tar) and surfaced with aggregate, an asphalt glaze coat, field-applied coatings, a mineral-surfaced cap sheet or mineral granules. The roof system may incorporate rigid insulation.

Note: At Peterson Roofing, we still believe that B.U.R. (Coal Tar Pitch) is the best "bang for your buck" when it comes to long-term roofing systems. (For flat roof sections with no pitch.) Not only is very little maintenance needed due to the self healing properties of asphalt softening points, but also has the best integrity for ponding water than any other flat roof system.

Note: We Love this system. It is very expensive and the roof must be flat.
